MUSEUM PATRONS:Please be aware that the front and back doors of the Honolulu House Museum tend to stick during the warmer months. We are not closed! Our museum docents keep a watchful eye/ ear but sometimes cannot hear you if they are giving a tour or answering a phone call. If you cannot open the door on a day we are open, please give us a call at 269-781-8544 or come around to the front door which opens much easier. A little tug won’t hurt the door, but please do so with care. If we missed you because of our stubborn antique doors, please call our Museum Coordinator, Alena, at 269-781-8544 to work out a time you can return. We hope to see you soon!

We’re open regular hours as just the Children’s Room
receives new carpet on this gorgeous Monday. Three rolling shelves, between the movies and computers, hold a selection of popular Children’s titles. So you can still enjoy your weekly refill. Wow, does this make us realize how much we could use a whole extra room’s worth space! Again, thank you to the Barton Fund for making this new carpet possible. WPL is grateful for grant opportunities that will allow the repairs and upgrades you’ll see coming to the building. All of these opportunities allow our main budget to spent in the circular manner of WPL providing opportunities to our community. Without such grant opportunities, WPL would certainly be a different place!Additional thanks to the Home Shoppe for working with us through this process. As well as the Village of Waterville for providing an exciting garbage truck appearance for our Bookworms while we were outside today.

While we’re busy replacing our carpets and setting up the Creative Media Lab, on site programming will be
limited…that’s why we’re encouraging you to participate in our “Get Caught Reading” photo contest!
During the month of May grab your favorite book (or the one you’re reading at the moment), find a fun place
to read (inside/outside/upside down even) and have someone take your picture! Then, email it to us at watervillecommunications@midyork.org to enter for a chance to win a fun prize (TBA)! Submissions will be
displayed on the “Programs & Extras” page of our website. Voting will take place on our Facebook and
Instagram pages beginning May 23rd and ending May 30th. So, tell your friends and family to cast their votes…
and don’t forget to vote yourself! The winner will be announced through social media
May 31st and notified via email!

This May, we interrupt our regularly scheduled… everything! But hopefully not too much!
The temptation to fill the month with loads of events is real. But we’re resisting so that we can
complete the carpeting and Creative Media Lab swiftly and well. At the moment,
we are pausing all donations of anything besides sturdy boxes. More details as we have them!
If you have teens who need volunteer hours, we will be able to provide plenty of them!

Your feedback is telling us that you’re not seeing some of our events pop up like you used to!
As so many of you use Gmail and Google Calendar, we thought we would start by offering email
invitations when WPL creates events on our own calendar. You’ll receive an email stating what the
event is, and an offer to add it to your own Google calendar. To opt in to this, just select the event categories
you’re interested in using the following form: https://forms.gle/8HYUsYcwHeFa1mnv8 This will collect
your email only for the purpose of these Google Calendar notifications. If you don’t have Gmail or
just want more library love, we recommend signing up for WPL’s monthly eNewsletter here:
https://share.hsforms.com/1hGwylD4ERLOD3-t812_iWAc78ln Of course, you can always check the
calendar on our website as well at https://www.watervillepl.org/calendar-of-events/
(you can use this to reserve the Program or study rooms too)!

As they approach the AP US History test on Friday, students spent some time outside, engaged in reviewing content.
The class chalked the sidewalks in front of the school building with major events and quotes from American History.
While they were depicting the historical events, the students participated in a discussion surrounding the topics!
